Hybrid owners are no longer the only ones being rewarded by IRS. Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced that buyers of the Jetta TDI sedan and SportWagen are eligible for a $1,300 Federal Income Tax Credit. The Internal Revenue Service has issued a certification letter affirming that the vehicles qualify for the Advanced Lean Burn Technology Motor Vehicle income tax credit.

If you are like me and considering adding a highly economical vehicle to your fleet, the Jetta TDI makes a viable alternative to a hybrid. This is good news considering the tax credits are running out on the most popular hybrid vehicles (Prius is no longer eligible). It also looking like a good deal considering the fuel efficient TDI is only $2000 more than a comparable equipped gas Jetta, or $700 after you figure in the tax credit—money you’ll save in fuel the first year or two of ownership.

Volkswagen Jetta TDI’s offer an alternative fuel vehicle with no compromises. Fuel efficiency, performance and convenience come standard with the 50-state compliant turbo diesel sedan and SportWagen models, which meet even the most stringent emissions standards in California. In addition, leading third-party certifier, AMCI, tested the Jetta TDI and found it achieved 38 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway (EPA estimates 29/30 city, 40 highway).
