Since our mag is all about customizing, the idea of a car show featuring vehicles in their original condition surprises me. The Survivor Collector Car Show, held last month at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois, does just that.
One hundred and sixteen unrestored vehicles, all at least 20 years old, came to the event. Highlights included a 1905 Pierce-Arrow, 1961 Chrysler 300 (with only 71 clocked on the odometer), a 1957 Ferrari and a blue 1954 Chevy pickup.
Originally, the trademark Survivor applied to Corvettes that passed Bloomington Gold’s judging standard for cars that could pass a 20-mile road test and retained more than 50% of their original factory finish in good condition. With the first Survivor Collector Car Show, the Survivor certification expands to more makes.
I can see the appeal of un-modified vehicle. For these antique cars, it’s fun to see how the car actually would have looked so many decades ago, without owner after owner tinkering with the original look.
