During these warm months I usually spend far too much time in the water than is good for me. Fortunately, I make off with just a bit of pruney skin, cold toes and a slight sunburn. When I heard this story about some about some speakers and an amp that took a lengthy dip, I feared the worse. After all, marine gear is supposed to resist the elements, not be impervious to them. However, a few products from MTX seemed to do just fine recently.
Apparently Keith Methot of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and his 1976 Mirrow Marine Cruiser experienced an unexpected storm. Water started filling the open boat, which was loaded with a Thunder Marine 1805 5-channel amplifier, two pairs of TM6502 6.5-inch marine coaxial speakers, and a pair of MTX TM1204 12-inch subwoofers. While the boat began to sink, the speakers and amp kept on playing and they continued to work for the 3 hours the boat’s hull rested on the lake’s floor.
Although they couldn’t salvage the boat, Methot and his crew did pull out the MTX Marine gear and reinstall it in a new boat. Apparently, they play as if they were new!
Anyone else have a similar story (though perhaps not so extreme) of products that can stand up to the elements? You have all summer long to put your gear to the test!
