Most hybrids on the road today aren’t much to talk about. Their average miles per gallon numbers disappoint and they don’t do enough in my book to save energy. I’m waiting for vehicles like ones using AFS Trinity’s Extreme Hybrid drive train to hit the market… 150mpg!

What I especially like about the SUV they outfitted is that on a single, overnight charge, it has a 40-mile all-electric range, so if you have a short commute you never have to dive into the gas tank. But, you can still use the vehicle for extended trips thanks to its hybrid nature.

AFS Trinity plans to license the technology to carmakers, but if they don’t bite, the company may modify existing hybrids or manufacture its own SUVs. They’re looking for 250 mpg sedans in the future, hopefully within 3 years.

If you've read any of our past features on installing aftermarket audio systems in a hybrid car, you know it's completely doable. I want to see more examples of customized hybrid cars. Send me your links, or upload your pics in our reader gallery!
