Boyd Coddington, the legendary hot-rod designer, died this morning of undisclosed causes. The famed fabricator and star of the TV show American Hot Rod had been hospitalized earlier this year. He was 63 years old.
Coddington had recently completed a Delehave-inspired hot-rod. Before that he had bestowed his style on countless other vehicles, including custom cars for celebrities such as Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Michael Anthony of Van Halen. His work is so well regarded that it has won him the Grand National Roadster Show’s America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) award six times.
Even those who don’t follow the hot-rod scene may have seen his high-end wheels. When I first started at the magazine, I recall heading to his shop to see them shaved from billet aluminum. To learn more about Boyd and the wonderful creations he built over his lifetime, visit www.boydcoddington.com
