Car Audio is really about customizing. Of course, we give the interior of the car the most attention, but a few exterior modifications are always welcome. For one of our makeover vehicles, we used lowering springs to give it a sleeker stance.
Here are some shots that show how to do it yourself.
1. In the front, the rear struts are held in by bolts under the hood in this coupe. You just need to undo the nut to release the strut.
2. This is also a good time to change the shocks.
3. Be sure to have the right tool to compress the springs. Coil-spring compression tools can often be borrowed or rented from shops.
4. Once you’ve compressed the old spring, installing the new spring is as easy. Take off the old spring, decompress it, and get to work compressing your new spring. It should slip right on.
5. Slip the strut back into place and bolt it on (two people really help with this).
6. Repeat the process with the rear struts. In this couple, the bolt for the rear strut is under the rear deck.
7. It’s a pain in the butt to get back there, but it’s definitely doable.
After you've installed your new springs, be sure to get your wheels aligned.
