What’s with all these audio manufacturers’ sponsoring outsider (i.e., non-traditional) sports? As you’ll see from post yesterday, Kicker has signed even more dirtbike riders. And, from an earlier post, you’ll see MTX’s involvement in mixed martial arts (MMA). Now Directed has partnered up with the Ultimate Fighting Championship
The reason behind these moves seems to be that young men (the main people who buy audio gear) are drawn in ever-growing numbers to sports like the UFC. Spreading the word about its Orion brand, Directed will have promotions on UFC.com. They also have an association with a top UFC fighter: Roger “El Matador” Huerta.
I buy audio gear (and I can even say that I’ve been to a Supercross), but I can’t say I plan to attend a UFC fight anytime soon. Then again, I’m not in the target demographic. What do all you young guys out there have to say about car audio and outsider sports? Is it a good match? Let me know.
